I didn't want to go watch this one. I do like French comedies but only when they are whimsical or about minorities, not when they are about typical aspects of French life like — in this case — summer camps.
Well, I am happy I did not resist the wife :-)
Although the story of the film was quite unimaginative (shit happens during a summer camp; well, everybody's who's ever been to one knows that!), the acting was good and, more important, the rythm was perfect. There was always something happening and the situations, although, again, inspired by real-life events that everyone has witnessed, were very funny.
Recommended watching if you need a morale boost.

I switched to Beta

mainly to be able to use labels (see bottom right). However, this feature doesn't work with non-ascii characters, so my nice 中文 label returns an empty list if you click on it.
The Blogger help page says they're working on it.

Another problem is comments. My old comments look garbled because the extended characters are shown as if coded in UTF-8, although they weren't at the time. And, according to the Blogger help page, bloggers who haven't switched to Beta won't be able to leave comments.

3-iron (빈집)

Another most singular film by Kim Ki-duk (김기덕)! And even more wordless than the other ones I saw. The film starts as an improbable thriller and ends as an improbable love story, yet it is absolutely enthralling all along. Kudos to the master.

The Soong Sisters (宋家皇朝)

Huge (and long!) epic about the incredible story of three sisters who had an enormous influence on 20th century China. The film is interesting and educative, but it never departs from what you expect from this kind of 'family sagas'. A must see for people interested in Chinese history or politics.
Maggie Cheung Man-yuk's (張曼玉) performance as Madame Sun Yat-sen is stunning.

I've just seen it serendipitously on the telly. If I recall correctly, reviews hadn't been particularly good when it first was shown back in 1998.
Well, I liked it very much. The Jewish families (the orthodox one and the assimilated one) are not too clichéd, the gay hero isn't either, and Elsa Zylberstein is perfect. The film is supposed to be a comedy/romance, but it carries a bitterness that is fully revealed at the end. Recommended.

Gorgeous (玻璃樽)

Fun action/romance film with Jackie Chan (成龍) at his best, and the unearthly beautiful Shū Qí (舒淇) at her loveliest. Although often portrayed as a 'Jackie Chan movie' (the French title is Jackie Chan à Hong Kong – ain't that terrible?), it's really half Jackie Chan movie, and half romance. Recommended.

Samaria (사마리아)

Another film by Kim Ki-duk (김기덕), the controversial South Korean director who investigates the darkest recesses of Korean society.
The story is as follows [spoilers!]: two teenage girls want to travel to Europe. One of them prostitutes herself, while the other one arranges her appointments and keeps track of the money. One day, the prostitute girl accidentally kills herself escaping the police. Her friend decides to trace back the clients, to sleep with them, and to return the money, in order to ease her grief. But her father, who is a police inspector and a devout Catholic, finds out what his daughter is doing and starts stalking the clients, eventually killing one of them. He then surrenders to the police.
As usual with Kim, characters do not talk much, and we do not know the real reasons behind their actions. He highlights the problems in Korean society and raises questions, not answers. He highlights the strains in the father-daughter relationship, again at a distance. And there are lots of religious overtones (both Buddhist and Christian) that are better left for the spectator to ponder way after the film has ended. A bitter film with aloof characters, but really worth watching.

Coffee and Cigarettes

B&W film by Jim Jarmusch. As with all 'segment' movies, some segments were good, some bad, some brilliant. The better ones were the ones with the celebrities (supposedly) playing their own roles.
I absolutely adored 'Cousins' and 'Cousins?', especially the latter, with Alfred Molina and Steve Coogan. It could've been a film in its own right.

Also saw Trading Places. Excellent 80's comedy. Why aren't today's comedies as good? (yes, I'm already an old fart)

Nem bírom tovább!

Nem tehetek róla, nem bírom Sárközy kurva pofáját. Szándékosan nem borotvált, ez a hülye... «Nem dologozom, nyaralok»

Utálom, utálom, utálom, utálom, utálom, utálom, utálom, utálom, utálom, utálom, utálom, utálom, utálom, utálom, utálom, utálom, utálom, utálom, utálom, utálom, utálom, utálom, utálom, utálom, utálom, utálom, utálom!!!!!

RQ > The first third-party products!

Not particularly interesting, but at least they could help hype Mongoose RuneQuest as the gaming event of the year...

The article that explains it all

Here.

RQ > Open Gaming Licence

The RuneQuest (TM) System Reference Document (SRD) is produced under the Open Gaming Licence (included in the RuneQuest (TM) Developer’s Pack). This allows anyone to use the RuneQuest (TM) SRD freely, so long as they follow all the requirements laid out in the Open Game Licence.
